From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
